One day a young woman at age 21 decided that she wanted to be a vegetarian. She was inspired by an elderly woman who affectionately goes by the name Mom Sparks. The young woman grew up in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and had always had a passion for healthy eating and living, because of the health message that she was taught from the books known as “Spirit of Prophecy”.

Hi, I’m Karen and I became a vegetarian at age 21 and I did not know much about a plant base lifestyle then. I did the best I knew but there was much to learn. I knew I was passionate about a healthy lifestyle and preventive lifestyle. I attended Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) and became a Public Health Inspector. After graduation I was employed by a Public Health Department as a Food Safety Inspector. During my work I would often work with Dieticians teaching food safety. While working with the Dieticians I fell in love with healthy meal planning and preparation. I felt compelled that I should be teaching others about plant-based healthy food preparation rather than just food safety. While working at the Health Department, I enrolled in a course in 2010 to be a Certified Health Coach which gave me wisdom on how to coach individuals. As I worked at the Health Department full time I coached in my spare time. That was just a start because I felt something was missing still. For nearly 2 years working with the Health Department, I taught Food Handler Training to residents of Toronto and was involved with several Food Safety presentations alongside the Dieticians. I so badly wanted to teach more than just Food Safety and I wanted to be like the Dietitian and more.

In my last 2 years at the Health Department working in the Pandemic, I was more convinced than ever that I needed to move forward and teach others about healthy plant base food preparation and adopting a healthier lifestyle. So I retired early from my profession in 2021 from the Health Department to pursue my passion to go tell the world about a healthy lifestyle, natural plant based nutrition and the 8 laws of health that governs a healthy and successful life.
My Health & Nutrition Programs Seminars & Consultation promote the 8 Laws of Health to follow which are Proper Nutrition, Exercise, adequate Water consumption, Sunlight exposure, Temperance in all things, fresh outside Air, Rest, Trust in divine power. The acronym NEWSTART helps us remember the 8 laws.
I enrolled in a Natural Nutrition Program with DSHN and I graduated as a Certified Natural Nutritionist. In early 2022 I was enrolled in the Gospel Medical Missionary Training with NHTLH and graduated as a Gospel Medical Missionary. I have been helping individuals and family to see the value in cooking delicious, healthy, natural, plant base meals and practicing the 8 laws of health.
